Welcome to my cribbage blog
33, swf, ISO a national ranking in cribbage.
Cribbage is a traditional card game played by two or four players. Cribbage is easy to learn, but takes years to master the strategy. Everytime I play, I learn a new trick or two. I love the game because it forces me to exercise my brain. Face it - since you left college, how many times do you really use your noggin?!
There is a small but growing competitive scene, governed by the American Cribbage Congress. There are two types of tournaments - weekly Grass Roots club tournaments that cost very little (my club is $11/week ante), and larger tournaments with entry fees of $60-$90. The money goes back to the tournament winners.
Cribbage tournaments are a throwback to the 50s - held in hotel conference rooms, veteran's halls, local community centers, churches/synagogues, or anywhere there is a large room, they draw all sorts of people. The thing everyone shares is a love of the game, friendliness and sense of community.
I discovered cribbage about 10 years ago, when I was dating Chip. Chip taught me the game, and we spent hours playing on the floor of his apartment. After we broke up I rarely played, mostly because I didn't know who to play with. I played every now and then on the Internet, but that was it.
About a year ago I moved back to the US from London. While I was looking for a job in LA, I needed something to do to meet people. I found a listing in LA Weekly's best of LA issue - the Best Place to Get Your Crib On. Whoo hoo! I went, and the rest was history. When I moved to Atlanta (I finally found a job!), I looked up the local Grass Roots club and played the day after I arrived.
My goal is to become nationally ranked. How can I do this? Practice, practice, and write all about it in a blog. Oh, and fly to a heck of a lot of tournaments, since in the south, tournaments are as rare as a championship pennant in Wrigley Field.
